Another responsive equipment mobilisation to the North Sea

In October 2022, ICON received an urgent request from a North Sea client for the rental of a 30-inch conductor gripper clamp. Having this equipment available on the shelf meant ICON could expedite the mobilisation, with the clamp packed and ready for shipment the same business day.

From Carlisle to Aberdeen in Two Days

The equipment travelled from ICON’s workshop facility in Carlisle, Western Australia, to Albert Quay in Aberdeen within two days, and is now operational in the North Sea on a long-term offshore campaign. Turnarounds like this only work because the equipment already exists — a rental fleet held ready rather than built to order is what turns an urgent client request into a same-day dispatch.

Why Rental Equipment Availability Matters

For operators, an urgent equipment need usually means an unplanned event — an existing clamp failing, a campaign scope changing, or a schedule pulling forward — and in those situations, lead time is the whole problem. Having equipment like conductor gripper clamps genuinely in stock, rather than quoted with a build lead time, is what lets a rental request turn into an operational asset in days rather than weeks. This is the core of ICON’s Rental Equipment and Conductor Lift Clamps capability.
