Advanced Riser Tension Protection (ARTP) System for INPEX’s Ichthys Phase 2a Campaign

  • Equipment Solutions

INPEX engaged ICON Engineering to supply and operate its Advanced Riser Tension Protection (ARTP) system for the Ichthys Phase 2a campaign on the Noble Deliverer MODU, spanning 12 wells over 3.5 years on the North-West Shelf. ICON upgraded the ARTP-B2 tension frame from tension-only to tension-and-compression compensation, doubling its stroke and adding a new high-speed winch to meet Phase 2a’s more severe environmental conditions and enable coiled tubing operations, with the final nine wells completed at mid-stroke. The campaign delivered over 2,900 critical-path operating hours with just five hours of NPT (0.17%), no spills or loss of containment, and two recognitions from INPEX for best practice.
