Directors
Derek La Ferla
Chairman
Derek is a highly regarded ASX200 chair and company director, with an extensive national network in business, capital markets, government and industry, backed by over 30 years of experience as a corporate lawyer. Derek has a wide range of board experience, including as former Chair of Sandfire Resources (ASX:SFR) where Derek was instrumental throughout feasibility, development and operational phases of the major DeGrussa Project. Derek is currently the Chair of Poseidon Nickel Limited (ASX:POS), Green Peak Energy Pty Ltd and Foodbank WA. He is also on the national board of the Australian Institute of Company Directors.
David Field

David is a founding partner of ICON Engineering. David has a strong background in offshore engineering with over 25 years experience in detailed design and installation of offshore structures, project management and development of equipment to support construction and drilling operations. Prior to founding ICON, David worked for Brown and Root Vickers in London, Saipem, Clough and WAPET. Since founding ICON David has developed a track record in successfully managing the installation of jackets and topsides utilising float-over and jack-up rig installation methods, and has personally supervised the installation of many significant offshore structures.
Garrick Aberle

Garrick is a founding partner of ICON Engineering. Prior to this he was employed by Wapet (now Chevron) as Chief Engineer for offshore pipelines and subsea systems on the Gorgon project. Garrick has a strong technical background in offshore oil and gas facilities design and construction. He has also been involved in evaluating business opportunities and progressing major projects through from conceptual phases to construction, the installation of minimal facilities offshore structures and conceptual field studies.

John Rooney

John joined ICON in 2006 as a structural engineer and during his tenure with ICON his technical knowledge, project management and offshore installation experience has afforded him the opportunity to oversee the delivery of ICON projects to industry leaders such as Chevron, Woodside and BHP Billiton. Graduating from the University of Western Australia with 1st Class Honours majoring in structural engineering, John also holds a Diploma in Project Management. John's experience and project management expertise provides ICON with a depth of knowledge and quality that ensures leading practice processes and exceptional results for our clients.
Steven Plain

With university qualifications in structural engineering and commerce, Steve has worked for small and large engineering consultancies across a range of industries throughout Australia and South East Asia. Steve joined ICON in 2008 initially as a senior structural engineer before taking on roles as a senior project manager and business manager. Steve has experience executing projects at all life cycles phases from concept and detailed design through to procurement, manufacture, installation and construction. Steve's experience covers a range of offshore activities with an emphasis on offshore drilling support services and bespoke equipment design, in particular heave compensation and riser tensioning systems. Steve has been instrumental in the innovation and development of the ICON Advanced Riser Tension Protector+ (ARTP+) Equipment Range which provides a step change in traditional compensated coiled tubing lift frames. With technical and practical hands on experience, Steve offers clients benefits in practical, efficient, safe solutions.
