UK's Exceed and ICON form Australasian Decom Collaboration

UK's Exceed and ICON form Australasian Decom Collaboration
  • Award winning UK offshore specialist firm launches Australasian decom business
  • Industry stalwart appointed Australian leader
  • Inks collaboration with Australian offshore engineering firm, ICON Engineering

Exceed, the Aberdeen-headquartered well management and performance improvement specialist, has announced the launch of Exceed Australia, as it eyes the country’s burgeoning decommissioning sector and a revitalised offshore market.

The company, which received the Queen’s Award for Enterprise: International Trade earlier this year, continues to implement an unwavering strategy of international expansion with its fifth overseas entity, which builds upon recent expansion into Mexico and Norway.

Appointed as Operations Manager, Australian industry stalwart and ex-Add Energy executive, Brad Girdwood, brings 30+ years’ local and international experience to Exceed Australia.

Explaining the rationale behind the company’s latest development, he said: “The time is now right for Exceed to make its mark upon the region, after it being in the pipeline for some years.  In particular, significant legislative developments surrounding the decommissioning of Australia’s offshore and onshore assets have accelerated the sector’s timeline.”

“Honed in the North Sea, Exceed’s spectrum of decommissioning capability provides this evolving $40.5billion market with critical experience and expertise,” he said.

Exceed’s entry into the local decom and well management market is bolstered by the advent of a collaborative relationship with Perth-based oil and gas services provider, ICON Engineering.

ICON Managing Director, David Field comments: “Since 1997, ICON has supported operators’ Facilities and Drilling departments, with a foot in each camp and the decommissioning market in Australia’s time zone often offers many opportunities to combine well P&A activities with facilities removal.

“Initially, our joint objective with Exceed is to provide the decommissioning sector with the combined corporate skills of well abandonment and facilities removal, with full focus upon compliance, safety and efficiency.”

Active in 38 countries worldwide, Exceed has project managed 70 wells, delivered performance improvement services to over 40 well projects and supported the delivery of 130 decommissioned wells in the UK. The company is now positioned to lead clients’ energy transformation, applying its well management expertise to CCS, geothermal, blue hydrogen and gas storage projects.

Established in 1997, ICON is renowned for its innovative approach, successfully delivering facilities and drilling support projects across the world’s major oil regions from the North Sea, to Africa and to New Zealand.
