Flarebooms and Kingposts

As there has been an incident previously in Australian waters where a flareboom spread failed and fell overboard, there is now increased awareness of the need to perform a thorough in-place analysis for this type of equipment.

Flareboom and Flaretip for Well Testing Support


Well testing onboard MODUs will usually involve interfacing a well test vendor-supplied flareboom and kingpost spread on the deck structure.

ICON has completed numerous structural design reviews of flareboom and kingpost spreads and so are familiar with all the load scenarios which need to be considered together with the critical deck locations which need to be reviewed.

In the event the existing deck structure or kingposts are found to be overstressed, ICON can design, fabricate and install the stiffening required to ensure the kingpost structure is suitable for the applied loads. ICON can do this whilst the vessel is operational and in field, avoiding expensive shipyard downtime.

ICON’s experienced team can also carry out pre installation surveys, lift studies, offshore installation, load testing and post load test NDT to ensure the kingpost and flareboom combination are fit for service.
