Murphy West Patricia Field Development WP-IA Platform: Jacket Installation, Malaysia
After the success of the WP-PA jacket & topsides, ICON Engineering was again commissioned to install the West Patricia WP-IA jacket.
WP-IA was the second of a planned series of jackup rig installable platforms to be used in the development of the West Patricia field. The 360 tonne jacket was lifted horizontally using the jackup rig “Atwood Beacon”.
WP-IA was the second of a planned series of jackup rig installable platforms to be used in the development of the West Patricia field. Similar to WP-PA, the WP-IA jacket has an additional two external vertical piles which double as well conductors.
The jacket was fabricated at Lumut by HL Engineering.
The 360 tonne jacket was lifted horizontally using the jackup rig “Atwood Beacon”.

It was then upended and lowered to the seabed. The jacket was secured to the rig to ensure it landed vertically and to support it during piling.

The water injection wells were then pre-drilled and completed before the topsides installation which was again performed using the ICON designed & operated float-over spread (refer separate project sheet).
Most of the installation procedures, equipment and rigging were able to be reused from the WP-PA jacket installation campaign, thereby realising substantial savings for the Client.
The rig install method again allowed the jacket installation and drilling to be performed significantly in advance of the topsides procurement and fabrication. Conventional installation by barge would have required two mobilisations of the heavy lift barge to achieve the same schedule.
